Ambani's RIL To Build The World's Largest Zoo In Jamnagar On About 250 Acres Land

Mukesh Ambani's son Anant Ambani is likely to include Komodo dragons and African lions.

New Delhi: Last year it was revealed that Reliance Industries Limited is going to build one of the world's largest zoos in Gujarat's Jamnagar. It will be Anant Ambani's pet project, he is the youngest son of the Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) chairman Mukesh Ambani. According to PTI, the zoo will be called 'Greens Zoological Rescue and the Rehabilitation Kingdom' and will be spread over 250.1 acres. Ambani operates the largest oil-refining complex in the state of Gujarat.

According to PTI, the Detailed Project Report (DPR) was submitted along with the Master (Layout) Plan for the proposed establishment of the zoo in Jamnagar by Reliance Industries Limited and was reportedly approved by the 33rd Meeting of the Central Zoo Authority in February 2019. A recent Bloomberg article quoted Parimal Nathwani the corporate affairs director at Reliance as saying that the zoo will include a rescue center to support the local government and it is scheduled to open in 2023. When Bloomberg asked about the cost of the project or give further details, the executive declined to comment. A top company executive told TOI last year, that the zoo will likely open to the public after work is completed in the following two years if there are no more delays in the project such as those due to COVID-19.

It has since been revealed that animals like - the African Lion, Cheetah, Jaguar, Indian Wolf, Asiatic Lion, Pygmy Hippo, Orangutan, Lemur, Fishing Cat, Sloth Bear, Bengal Tiger, Malayan Tapir, Gorilla, Zebra, Giraffe, African elephant, and Komodo Dragon will be a part of the zoo. As per the reports, the zoo will have birds and animals from across the world in sections named Frog House, Dragon's Land, an Insectarium, Land of Rodent, Aquatic Kingdom, Forest of India, Marshes of West Coast, Indian Desert, and Exotic Island.

Ambanis have a net worth of about $80 billion and have expanded to tech and e-commerce. Their various 'quirky projects' include the Mumbai Indians cricket team and a soccer league which they started in 2014. Nita Ambani has even joined the board of New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art in 2019 according to Bloomberg.
