Maruti Suzuki WagonR Tops June 2019 Sales In Compact Hatchback Space
Maruti WagonR remains the undisputed sales king in June 2019 as well, enjoying more than 35 per cent of market share
The crowded compact hatchback segment comprises of three Maruti offerings along with one each from Tata, Hyundai and Datsun. So in this segment we have cars like the Maruti Suzuki WagonR, Ignis and Celerio as well as Hyundai Santro, Datsun GO and Tata Tiago. Here’s an in depth look at which of these offerings were most sought after by new car buyers in the month of June.

Maruti WagonR: The WagonR has been sitting atop of the table for a long time. Maruti sold more than 10,000 units of the hatchback last month, which is pretty close to its average sales of the last 6 months. Having said that, it witnessed a sharp decline in sales compared to May, registering an almost 30 per cent MoM (month-on-month) decline.
Tata Tiago: Tata’s bread and butter model, the Tiago, comfortably enjoys the second spot on the list, registering an MoM growth of more than 55 per cent. Even with this growth, the Tiago was slightly off its 6 months average sales figure by more than 700 units.
Hyundai Santro: The Santro has taken a major dip in the monthly average figures over the last six months. The trend remains the same when you compare June’s numbers to that of May, which saw a decline of more than 15 per cent.
Maruti Celerio: The Celerio is easily the most least equipped hatchback and still it manages to post decent numbers. It secured the third position after the WagonR and Tiago, while the Santro is not too far off. The Celerio’s sales dipped by more than 7 per cent compared to the previous month and it was behind its average sales over the last six months by more than 2700 units.
Maruti Ignis: The Ignis is the only Maruti Suzuki here which exceed MoM numbers and average sales over the last six months. The Nexa hatchback commands a market share of more than 10 per cent.
Datsun GO: The Datsun GO’s numbers continue to take a tumble, falling below the 200 unit mark. Its market share has fallen below 1 per cent.
Total: The segment, on the whole, saw its MoM numbers drop by over 8 per cent.
