Less Powerful Bentley Bentayga V8 Launched In India

It might not be the most powerful Bentayga but can still go from 0-100kmph in 4.4 seconds!

Bentley launched the Bentayga SUV in India back in 2016. However, back then, it was made available in a single variant only, which was powered by a W12 petrol engine. Now, two years later, the Crewe-based carmaker has launched the Bentayga with a smaller V8 petrol engine, which made its international debut in January 2018. Called the Bentayga V8, it is priced at Rs 3.78 crore (ex-showroom Mumbai). The Bentayga W12, on the other hand, costs Rs 3.85 crore.

The Bentayga V8 gets a 4.0-litre, twin-turbocharged petrol engine that makes 550PS of maximum power and 700Nm of peak torque, 58PS and 200Nm lesser than the W12. However, like the W12, the V8 also gets the ZF 8-speed automatic transmission and sends power to all four wheels via 40:60 rear-biased all-wheel drive. Bentley claims that the Bentayga V8 can go from 0-100kmph in 4.4 seconds and has a top speed of 290kmph. For reference, the Bentayga W12, on the other hand, can go from 0-100kmph in 4.1 seconds and has a top speed of 301kmph.

While the V8 loses out to the W12 in terms of acceleration and top speed, thanks to the cylinder deactivation tech, it is more frugal than the W12. It has a claimed mileage of 8.7kmpl against the W12’s 6.8kmpl. Thanks to this, it has a range of 746km, 168km more than the more powerful Bentayga.

Apart from the engine, what’s new on the Bentayga V8 are the optional carbon-ceramic brakes, which are not on offer on the W12. Claimed to be the largest and most powerful braking system to be fitted on a Bentley, it is also said to be the largest brake system and is available only on the Lamborghini Urus apart from the Bentayga V8. Bentley has equipped it with 440mm discs with 10 piston calipers at the front, while the rear gets 370mm discs. Together, they provide a braking torque of 6,000Nm. Talking about the wheels, the Bentayga gets 21-inch alloys as standard while 20-inch and 22-inch alloys are offered as optional.

In terms of design, the Bentayga V8 looks identical to the standard Bentayga (W12). However, the V8 gets gloss black finished front grille and window surrounds, unlike the chrome treatment on the W12.

While there aren’t too many SUV options in the Rs 3+ crore range, you can go for the Bentayga if luxury and lifestyle is on your mind. However, if you’re after performance, there’s the Rs 3 crore (ex-showroom) Lamborghini Urus. It’s also powered by a 4.0-litre, V8 engine but can go from 0-100kmph in 3.6s, 0.8s quicker than the Bentayga. However, if you can wait, Rolls-Royce will launch the Cullinan in India in 2019. Expect it to be more expensive than the Bentayga.
