Kerala: Section 144 Imposed In Alappuzha After Two Politicians Murdered. Police Says Probe On

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan condemned the alleged murders of the political leaders in Alappuzha

New Delhi: Two deaths of political leaders in the last 10 hours have rocked Kerala's Alappuzha. In the wake of the killings of SDPI leader KS Shah and BJP leader Ranjith Sreenivasan, section 144 has been imposed in the district, Alappuzha district collector A Alexander told ANI. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan condemned the alleged murders of the political leaders in Alappuzha, according to CMO's statement.

Sreenivasan, the 40-year-old, OBC Morcha Kerala state secretary and a member of the BJP state committee, was reportedly hacked to death in his house by unidentified attackers on Sunday. Sreenivasan was a BJP candidate in the 2016 Assembly elections, who contested from the Alappuzha constituency. Besides, being a political leader, the 40-year-old was an advocate by profession.

In another incident, Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) leader KS Khan was allegedly killed after a car rammed into his bike, he was travelling on in Alappuzha's Mannancherry. He was allegedly attacked by an unidentified gang.

As soon as the accident took place, he was rushed to the hospital in Ernakulam but later succumbed to his injuries. After Khan's death, the SDPI alleged RSS' involvement in its leader's death.

Taking to media on Sunday, Alappuzha SP G Jaidev cleared the air that more investigation is required in the twin murders. "More investigation is required. One murder occurred yesterday night and the second happened around 6:30 am today. We have imposed Section 144; questioning suspicious people. We are checking if there is any link between the murders," Alappuzha SP told ANI.
