New Delhi: A CPI(M) worker was hacked to death in Kerala's Kannur district on Monday morning, said police. The victim was identified as Korambil Haridas, a 54-year-old fisherman, reports The Indian Express.

The police reportedly said that the assailants have hacked the victim multiple times after pouncing on him while he was returning after fishing. To prevent any further clashes, police tightened the security in Thalassery. There has been political turmoil between CPI(M) and Sangh Parivar in the region. Earlier, tension prevailed between RSS and CPI(M) at a festival in a temple when BJP leaders were assaulted by the CPI(M) workers. BJP had then taken out rallies to condemn CPI(M)'s attack on their party workers.

In one of the rallies, a local BJP leader and councillor at Thalassery municipality had warned CPI(M) with stern repercussions if the BJP workers are targetted.
