The Ninja 125 and Z125 might be diminutive, but boy do they pack a punch!

Last year, Kawasaki announced that it would unveil two small displacement motorcycles at this years EICMA Motor Show, which is set begin on 6 November, 2018. Instead, it is now believed that the Japanese motorcycle manufacturer will be revealing the two 125cc motorcycles a month earlier at the 2018 Intermot show in Cologne Germany.

While some of you may scoff at the idea of a 125cc Kawasaki, you’d be amazed by the performance they promise to offer. Reports suggest that the two motorcycles will share a 125cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder, fuel-injected motor that produces a respectable 14.9PS of power. The motor is expected to be mated to a 5-speed gearbox and send power to the rear wheel via a conventional chain drive. To give you a better perspective, both bikes make about 4-5PS more than the current range of 125cc motorcycles available in our country.

However, it must be noted that Kawasaki was quick to point out that these numbers might fluctuate a little and that the official numbers will be disclosed at the launch event. Kawasaki also says that it has tuned the engine to provide most of its power in the mid-range and top-end of the rev band.

In terms of design, the Ninja 125 and Z125 are based off the firms quarter-litre bikes, the Ninja 250SL and Z250SL. In fact, the two look quite similar to their elder siblings. The green trellis frame on the street naked is reminiscent of the Z900 and makes for a distinctive design highlight.

Both bikes get 17-inch alloy wheels with a 100/80-section front and 130/70-section rear tyre. While the spec sheet for both bikes are yet to be revealed, various sources suggest that the Ninja 125 will get a seat height of 785mm, which would make it perfect for an average-sized individual. At 815mm, however, the Z125 gets a taller seat height. Based on the images of both bikes, we can also confirm that they will use conventional telescopic forks up front and a rear monoshock, which may get some form of adjustability.

As sad as this sounds, both the Ninja 125 and Z125 won’t be making it to India as they’re designed for the European market. However, with Kawasaki set to double down on localised products, we could expect the quarter-litre Ninja 250SL and Z250SL to make it into the country in the near future.
