ITBP Personnel Arrested For Allegedly Raping Minor Girl In Sikkim

A case was registered against the ITBP jawan under the POCSO's Section 4 (punishment for penetrative sexual assault) and Section 6 (punishment for aggravated penetrative sexual assault).

New Delhi: A jawan of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) was arrested in Sikkim for allegedly raping a 13-year old girl, said the police on Sunday, reported news agency PTI. As per the report, the security personnel raped the girl multiple times at his official quarter after which the girl became pregnant, the police added.

The incident took place in Rangpo town of Sikkim’s Pakyong district, they said.

According to the report, the girl’s mother also alleged in her complaint that a teenaged local boy also sexually assaulted the girl for months. The boy has also been detained, said the police.

The girl's mother alleged that the paramilitary personnel, an assistant sub-inspector, raped her multiple times at his residential quarters in Raj Bhavan's Winter Camp in Rangpo since April.

A case was registered against the ITBP jawan, a native of Dharchula in Uttarakhand's Pithoragarh district, under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act's section 4 (punishment for penetrative sexual assault) and section 6 (punishment for aggravated penetrative sexual assault).

In the same complaint, the girl's mother alleged that the local boy was also sexually assaulting her since February.

The boy has been nabbed and legal action is being taken against him, said the police adding that they are investigating the case, and trying to ascertain if the local boy and the ITBP jawan had any connection.

The girl was medically examined at the primary health centre in Rangpo, they added.

The sequence of events is being established, they said, refusing to divulge details about how the alleged rapes and assaults continued for so long.
