The joint operation, launched on April 27, also led to the neutralization of three militants from the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN-KYA) and the recovery of four automatic weapons and ammunition.

The kidnapping took place when suspected NSCN-KYA militants abducted the two workers, who were working on a road construction project, from their campsite in Pangchao, located near the Arunachal Pradesh-Nagaland border.
