'Zero Tolerance Towards Violence On Campus': JNU Warns Students After Clash Over Non-Veg Food
On Monday, the Vice-Chancellor in an official appeal to the students reiterated its “resolve for the zero tolerance towards any form of violence on campus.”
New Delhi: A day after violence erupted on the campus, the Jawaharlal Nehru administration warned students against involving in any activity that might disrupt peace and harmony.
On Monday, the Vice-Chancellor, Santishree Dhulipudi Pandit, in an official appeal to the students reiterated its “resolve for the zero tolerance towards any form of violence on campus.”
It further added, “The students are also warned to refrain from involving in such incidents which disturb the peace and harmony on Campus. If anyone found indulging in such acts, they will be liable for disciplinary action as per University rules.”
The statement came after two groups of students clashed at the Kaveri hostel on campus over non-vegetarian food being served.
After the clash became violent leaving a few students injured, the JNU Student’s Union (JNUSU) alleged the Akhil Bharatiya Vidhyarthi Parishad (ABVP) of disrupting the mess activities for serving non-veg food on the occasion of Ram Navami.
It further added that ABVP members pelted stones on students who were eating non-veg food later in the evening.
However, the claim was denied by the ABVP members who said that it was the “Leftists” who disrupted a puja organised at the campus on the occasion of Ram Navami.
As both groups accused each other, the Delhi police filed a complaint against ‘unknown’ members of ABVP after many complaints from the students.
Post the violence of Sunday evening, according to a report by news agency PTI, security has been increased at the campus to maintain peace and ensure that no untoward incident takes place again.
