'You Never Take Action Against...': Mamata's Retort To PM Modi Over His Bengal Violence Remark Against TMC

Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee hit out at PM Narendra Modi after he accused the TMC of booth capturing, attacking BJP workers during Panchayat polls.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday launched a scathing attack on PM Narendra Modi and said that he cannot raise corruption issues because he is surrounded by alleged scams of PM Cares Fund, Rafale deal and demonetisation. She said that the PM cannot fool people all the time and that he never takes action against his own people who are involved in various cases of crimes against women. The remarks came after PM Modi alleged that TMC threatened BJP workers and resorted to booth capturing during Bengal Panchayat polls.

"He (PM Modi) is speaking without any evidence. He wants common people to suffer. You can’t raise corruption issues because you are surrounded by issues like the PM Cares fund, Rafale deal, and demonetisation. You can fool people sometimes but not all the time. You never take any action against your own people who are involved in cases of atrocities against women, atrocities on wrestlers, atrocities in Manipur...More than 16-17 people were killed in the state," Banerjee was quoted as saying by ANI.

Earlier in the day, while addressing the party workers and supporters at the Kshetriya Panchayati Raj Parishad in Bengal, the PM accused TMC of threatening voters as well.

"They do anything required to ensure that no BJP candidate can file nomination..they not only threaten BJP workers but also the voters. Contracts are given out to capture booths...This is their way of doing politics in the state..," the Prime Minister said.

Mamata Attacks Centre Over EC Appointment Bill

In another case, Mamata Banerjee took to X (formerly Twitter) and slammed the Central government for introducing the Chief Election Commissioner Bill in the Rajya Sabha.

The bill seeks to replace the Chief Justice of India from the three-member panel with a Union Minister, that selects Election Commissioners.

"Amidst calls to bow down to the judiciary, the @BJP4India instead bows to anarchy!

The CJI's role in the 3-member committee for selecting the CEC is crucial. We strongly oppose replacing the CJI with a cabinet minister in the EC selection. The discomfort suggests their vote manipulation could suffer," the Bengal CM said in the tweet.

"India must question this blatant disregard for the judiciary!" she added.

Are they aiming to turn the Judiciary into a minister-run kangaroo court? We pray to the JUDICIARY for INDIA. My lord, save our country!
