Wrestlers’ Protest: Organisers Booked For Rioting, Obstructing Public Officials On Duty, Says Delhi Police — Top Points

Star wrestlers Bajrang Punia, Vinesh Phogat, and Sakshi Malik were booked in an FIR on Sunday along with other organisers after a scuffle broke out between them and the police at Jantar Mantar. They have been booked for rioting and obstructing public servant in discharge of duty and the FIR was registered under Sections 147, 149, 186, 188, 332, 353 of the Indian Penal Code and Section 3 of the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act.

As per the Delhi Police a few wrestlers came to Jantar Mantar at night to protest but were denied permission and sent back home. 

Earlier in the day, a scuffle broke out between the protesting wrestlers and police as the protestors tried to take out a march from Jantar Mantar to the new Parliament building being inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. 

Several protestors were detained as the Delhi Police cleared their protest site. Here are other top developments that took place throughout the day.

Security personnel on Sunday halted the protesting wrestlers from marching towards the new Parliament building, detaining them along the way.

• After the wrestlers were loaded into buses and taken to various locations, police officers began clearing the protest site by removing cots, mattresses, coolers, fans, and the tarpaulin ceiling, as well as other wrestlers' belongings. 
• Wrestlers and police officers shoved and pushed each other when Vinesh Phogat, her cousin sister Sangeeta Phogat, and Sakshi Malik tried to breach the barricades at Jantar Mantar, just three kilometres from where the prime minister inaugurated the new Parliament building.
• Vinesh Phogat, Sakshi Malik, and Bajrang Punia, along with their supporters, were later detained. 
• After several hours of detention, the Delhi Police released some of the wrestlers, including Vinesh Phogat and Sakshi Malik. 
• Opposition parties slammed the central government for "manhandling" the wrestlers, with former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi claiming that now that the "coronation" is over, the "arrogant king is crushing the voice of the people" on the streets.
• Hundreds of farmers, led by BKU leader Rakesh Tikait, staged a sit-in at the closed Ghazipur border as they attempted to enter the national capital to participate in a protest called by agitating wrestlers.
