Women Not Allowed To Go Out Alone, No Revealing Slipper: Taliban Issues Diktats As Kabul Run 10 KMs Away

Kabul: Having captured more than two-thirds of Afghanistan, the Taliban are issuing horrifying diktats to girls and women in the areas, which are now under their control.

A schoolteacher from northern Afghanistan’s Takhar province said that after Taliban capture, women were not allowed to go out to the market without a male escort, according to a report by the Associated Press.

Quoting families who have left their homeland and now taken refuge in Kabul, the report said the girls riding home in a motorised rickshaw in the Takhar province were stopped and lashed for wearing “revealing sandals”.

The fresh diktats remind the Afghani people of the Taliban rule before 2001 when women were not allowed to study and work.

United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres has expressed concern over horrific reports of Taliban oppression on the Afghan women and girls.

“I’m... deeply disturbed by early indications that the Taliban are imposing severe restrictions on human rights in the areas under their control, particularly targeting women and journalists,” he told reporters on Friday.

With the Taliban heading towards Kabul after having captured Afghanistan’s second-largest city Kandahar and a number of other provincial capitals, President Ashraf Ghani in his address to the nation assured to prevent further instability, violence and displacement of people.

The President asserted the remobilisation of the country’s armed forces was a “top priority”
