'Won't Allow Imposed War On Afghans': Prez Ashraf Ghani Addresses Nation As Taliban Nears Kabul
“I assure you that as your President, my focus is to prevent further instability, violence and displacement of people,” he added.
Kabul: Asserting the remobilisation of the country’s armed forces was a “top priority”, Afghan President Ashraf Ghani has assured to prevent further instability, violence and displacement of people.
“Under the current situation, remobilizing the Afghan security and defense forces is our top priority,” said Ghani, ANI credited Tolo News.
“I assure you that as your President, my focus is to prevent further instability, violence and displacement of people,” he added.
Ghani said that he would “not allow imposed war on Afghans to bring further killings, loss of the gains of the last 20 years, destruction of public property”.
The President in his address to the Afghani people said he is holding consultations with local leaders and international partners on the situation, Reuters reported.
Ghani’s address to the nation comes as the number of civilians fleeing the Taliban onslaught is increasing.
Accelerating rapid advance towards capital Kabul, the Taliban has so far seized the country’s second-largest city Kandahar and a number of other provincial capitals.
The insurgents also took the nearby city of Lashkar Gah and now control about a third of the country’s provincial capitals.

The development comes as the United States and other foreign troops withdraw after 20 years of military operations.
