Will rename Hyderabad to Bhagyanagar if BJP comes to power, says Legislator

While talking to news agency ANI, Raja Singh said "Earlier, Hyderabad was Bhagyanagar and in 1590 Quli Qutub Shah came to Hyderabad, he changed Bhagyanagar to Hyderabad... We are planning to rename Hyderabad."

NEW DELHI: After Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced the renaming of Faizabad district as Ayodhya and the Gujarat government has said that it is considering on rechristening Ahmedabad as Karnavati, a BJP legislator on Thursday said that Hyderabad will be renamed as Bhagyanagar if the BJP came to power in the southern state of Telangana. While talking to news agency ANI, Raja Singh said "Earlier, Hyderabad was Bhagyanagar and in 1590 Quli Qutub Shah came to Hyderabad, he changed Bhagyanagar to Hyderabad... We are planning to rename Hyderabad." "In Telangana, the BJP will win a majority and then our first aim will be developing the state and second objective will be renaming Hyderabad as Bhagyanagar. We will also change the names of Secunderabad and Karimnagar," he said. He also said that the areas named after Mughals and Nizams will be changed and kept after the persons who fought for Telangana and for the country. Known for making contentious statements, controversial Telangana BJP MLA T Raja Singh had earlier posted a video message on a social networking site where he said one of his friends suggested him to hold an Iftar party like many other lawmakers do during the holy month of Ramzan. Earlier, Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani on Thursday announced that his government was keen on renaming Ahmedabad as Karnavati. Speaking on the same, Rupani said: “We are contemplating changing the name of Ahmedabad to Karnavati, the talks of which have been going on since a long time.” Historically, the area around Ahmedabad has been inhabited since the 11th century, when it was known as Ashaval. In the state, the Telangana Assembly Election 2018 will take place in a single phase on December 7 and the counting of votes would be taken up on December 11. The ruling party TRS led by caretaker CM KCR  will be facing the Bahujan Left Front, BJP and the Congress led grand alliance of TJS, TDP and CPI . This time, the BJP is contesting alone in the Telangana elections.
