'Why Promises Made To Farmers Not Fulfilled': VP Dhankhar Raps Agriculture Minister Shivraj Chouhan

"Can we create a boundary between the farmer and the government? I do not understand why there is no dialogue with the farmers," Vice President Dhankhar said during a public gathering.

Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar took up the issue of the protesting farmers and questioned the government why there was no dialogue with the farmers.

Dhankhar also came down heavily on Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan questioning why the promises made to the farmers were not fulfilled.

"Can we create a boundary between the farmer and the government? I do not understand why there is no dialogue with the farmers. My concern is why this initiative has not happened so far," the Vice President said while speaking at centenary celebrations of the Central Institute for Research on Cotton Technology (CIRCOT).

"Agriculture Minister, I have some pain. It is a concerning and thoughtful subject for me. Why this initiative has not happened so far? You are the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development. I am reminded of Sardar Patel, and his responsibility to unify the nation, which he did so excellently. You have a similar challenge before you today. It should not be considered any less than the unity of India," Dhankhar said while attacking Agriculture Minister Shivraj Chouhan.

Addressing Chouhan, Dhankhar asked, "Was the promise made to the farmers? If the promise was made, then why was it not fulfilled?"

He also questioned the minister of what the government is doing to fulfill the promises made to the farmers. "There was protest last year, there are protests even this year. The cycle of time is revolving, but we are not doing anything," he added.

Meanwhile, Congress hit out at Dhankhar's statement by questioning what Dhankhar did when the farm laws were brought in the country.

"Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar has just woken up. 700 farmers have died and when the farm laws were brought, farmers were protesting outside Delhi. At that time also, he was the Vice President. He should have cared about those farmers and should have gone to meet them," Congress MP Manickam Tagore said.
