'What Did You Do About Law & Order In Delhi In Last 10 Days?': AAP's Atishi Slams L-G Saxena

AAP MLA Atishi slammed Delhi's Lieutenant-Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena and asked what work he has done based in the last 10 days after serious criminal cases were reported in the national capital.

New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party MLA Atishi took slammed newly appointed Lieutenant-Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena for stepping out of his jurisdiction and interfering in the functioning of the Delhi government. Saxena who took charge as the L-G of the national capital had said he wasn’t the kind of L-G who would sit in an AC room but would be out on the ground and work. The AAP MLA trained guns on L-G and accused him of interfering in the Delhi government's work and conspiring to derail democracy as he visited two DJB facilities and a sewage treatment plant on Saturday.

“Today I want to ask him what have you done to improve the law and order situation in Delhi in the last 10 days.”, Atishi said during a press conference.

She further said that she wanted to ask Saxena how many policemen he spoke to about the law and order situation in Delhi.

“You said that you will not be in the office, how many police stations have you visited in the past 10 days and given orders to how many policemen. From May 26 till today, there is a list of serious crimes in Delhi. Did they take any action on these crimes?”, she asked.

Further highlighting the law and order situation in Delhi, she said that a woman was molested in Greater Kailash by policemen and then asked what the L-G had done about that incident.

“Has he fulfilled the promises made 10 days ago? Tell us how many police stations were inspected? The police themselves are involved in crimes, what action was taken against them? In Greater Kailash, the police molested and attacked the woman, what did you do about it? she asked.

Taking a jibe at Saxena, Atishi said that the Central government sent Saxena to stay away from the police.

“Because in the last 10 days, wherever serious crimes happened, you did not go there”, said the AAP MLA.

She asserted, “You did not hold a review meeting on the indecency of the policemen. The central government has asked you to stay away from law and order.”

Atishi, AAP MLA from Kalkaji, on Saturday hit out at the L-G saying that he was continuously making a mockery of Delhi's constitutional arrangement as he called another meeting of Delhi Jal Board (DJB) officials without informing the CM.

The post of the L-G is a constitutional one, and to sit at that position and to make a mockery of the provisions of the constitution does not reflect well on anyone, Atishi said in the press conference.

She said that the Supreme Court's Constitutional Bench has clearly stated that the LG only has power over Land, Law & Order, and Police, everything else is under the elected government.
