Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar Treks 18 Kms In Uttarakhand To Assess Polling Requirements

The Chief Election Commissioner said that he will continue to trek various remote locations to understand the requirements of the polling booths.

New Delhi: Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar trekked for 18 kilometres in Uttarakhand on Friday to assess the challenges the polling parties will face in the hilly areas, according to an ANI report. He said the polling parties have to walk for days to reach far-off areas. Kumar reached Dumak and Kalgoth village, the most remote polling booths of Uttarakhand located in Chamoli district. The Election Commission tweeted that the Commissioner during his trek encouraged the polling officials, who travel through tough terrains. The poll body said that he also encouraged the villagers to vote.

"Polling parties have to walk three days to reach here. I wanted to visit here to understand the challenges faced by the polling personnel during elections," he told ANI.

On reaching the village, he was greeted by the villagers with enthusiasm.

The Election Commissioner said that he will continue to visit such remote polling booths to understand the requirements.

"I will be visiting several remote polling booths starting from here and try to fulfill the requirements of voters in these areas," he said.

The Dumak and Kalgoth polling stations are a part of the Badrinath Assembly constituency.

On Friday, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami won the Champawat bypoll by a margin of over 55,000 votes.

This was a much-needed victory for Dhami to remain, Chief Minister of the Uttrakhand after he lost the state Assembly polls held earlier this year despite the BJP's landslide victory.
