'Bengal Now Land Of Bomb, Bullet, Injustice To Beti': BJP Slams CM Mamata, Slams I.N.D.I.A. Of 'Selective Outrage'

The BJP attacked West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee alleging a breakdown in law and order in the state while also accusing the I.N.D.I.A. bloc of practising "selective outrage".

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) launched a scathing attack on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, alleging a breakdown in law and order in the state, dubbing it a "land of bomb, bullet, and injustice" under the rule of the Trinamool Congress (TMC). This comes in the wake of a gruesome incident where an unidentified young woman was found dead in North 24-Parganas district with her throat slit and her face charred beyond recognition.

Expressing her shock and concern, Union Minister and BJP leader Meenakshi Lekhi stated, "An unfortunate incident from West Bengal has come to the fore. This reminds us how crimes against women are continuously happening in Bengal." She further criticised the West Bengal Chief Minister, known for her "maa, maati, manush" (mother, land, people) slogan, accusing her of turning the state into a place of violence and injustice for daughters, news agency PTI reported.

Lekhi demanded stringent action against the perpetrators responsible for the heinous crime.

BJP National Spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla voiced his concerns, stating, "West Bengal is a state which is considered to be of 'Maa, Maati, Maanush.' Because of TMC, it is now a land of 'bomb, bullet, and (injustice to) beti'." He accused the TMC government of having a "Talibani mindset and culture" and pointed out previous instances of violence against women in the state, particularly what he termed as "revenge rape" after the state election in 2021.

"West Bengal is a state which is considered to be of 'Maa, Maati, Maanush'. Because of TMC, it is now a land of 'Bomb, bullet and (Injustice to) beti'. There is a government of TMC, 'Talibani Mindset and Culture'. This is the same government, under which multiple women were victims of revenge rape in the name of post-poll violence in 2021. And all types of attempts were made to save these criminals," he remarked.

Targetting the I.N.D.I.A. bloc, Poonawalla highlighted cases in Rajasthan where women faced violence and criticised the "selective outrage" of Opposition parties.

"In Hanumangarh, the victim was forced to commit suicide, what statement did Congress give? In Seekar what happened with the child, she was murdered? what statement did Congress give? In Bhilwara, Karauli, or Pratapgarh where a woman was disrobed what statement did Congress or the INDI Alliance give? Why is there a selective outrage? Are the women going to be divided in the borders of the states? Or every woman's concerns and safety should be given priority and the same should be discussed, tell us Rahul Gandhi ji," he asked.

"When Rajasthan Minister Rahendra Guda tried to raise the matter of women's safety in the Assembly, he is promptly dismissed the next day. When their own MLA Divya Mardena said that I am unsafe, what about other women? She said Rajasthan police did not file FIR against State minister Mahesh Joshi's son who was facing rape charges. She was silenced for saying this. Their MLA, Johri Lal Meena's son is accused of raping a young girl and the Rajasthan Police took no action against him. POCSO Court ordered action against him. Still, Rajasthan Police, as always, tried to save the rapists and criminals," Poonawala claimed.

He went on to remark that "On one end, we have 'beti bachao' (save the girl child) in the country, it is 'balatkaari bachao, apraadhi bachao' (save the rapists and criminals) in Rajasthan."

Targeting CM Mamata Banerjee, Amit Malviya, the BJP's co-incharge for West Bengal, shared a video clip of the victim's partially charred body on X, asserting, "This is the situation of law and order in West Bengal." He questioned the Chief Minister's silence on the matter and expressed apprehension that the tragic incident might be swept under the rug if the alleged criminals were "patronised" by the TMC.

He also directed his criticism towards the opposition parties, particularly the Congress and its leader Rahul Gandhi, asking if they would condemn CM Mamata Banerjee's inability to safeguard women in West Bengal. He questioned whether being in the "I.N.D.I Alliance" would hinder any such condemnation.

On Shehzad Poonawalla's selective outrage statement, CPI General Secretary D Raja pointed out that such incidents are increasing in BJP-ruled states by saying, "Whenever and wherever Women and children are assaulted like that, it is increasing in BJP-ruled states. What is their response? What is their answer? It is not that they can blame the opposition as they like and they can get out of their responsibility."
