  The Impact Player rule, introduced in 2023 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), continues to play an important role in IPL 2025.

This rule allows teams to substitute a 12th player for any one of their original XI during either innings. Several teams have strategically utilized this advantage, with some players delivering standout performances in their roles. Among them are Sanju Samson, Vignesh Puthur, Ashutosh Sharma, and Sherfane Rutherford.

Vignesh Puthur's breakthrough performance

During the high-voltage clash between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings, MI suffered a defeat, but young spinner Vignesh Puthur stole the limelight. Introduced as an impact player, the 24-year-old spinner delivered an exceptional spell, claiming three wickets for just 32 runs in his four overs.

At one point, Delhi seemed to be heading for defeat, but Ashutosh, introduced as an impact substitute, turned the game on its head with a blistering 66 off 31 balls, leading his team to a remarkable comeback win.

Sherfane Rutherford's fighting innings

In Gujarat Titans vs Punjab Kings match on March 25, Punjab posted a mammoth total of 243 runs. While Gujarat ultimately fell short by 11 runs, Sherfane Rutherford, brought in as an impact player, played a fiery knock. His 46 runs off 28 balls kept Gujarat's hopes alive till the final overs.
