Hurun Rich List 2025: India Welcomes 13 New Billionaires, Ambani Retains Top Spot

India has now secured the third position globally for the number of billionaires, with 284 listed on the Hurun Global Rich List 2025. Mukesh Ambani continues to hold the title of the richest person in Asia, with a net worth of Rs 8.6 trillion, despite a Rs 1 trillion decrease from last year. He narrowly surpassed Gautam Adani, whose wealth increased by 13 per cent, reaching Rs 8.4 trillion.

India welcomed 13 new billionaires this year, bringing the total number of billionaires in the country to 284. The combined wealth of these billionaires amounts to Rs 98 trillion, which is about one-third of India's GDP and exceeds the entire GDP of Saudi Arabia. Of the 284 individuals, 175 saw an increase in their wealth, while 109 either experienced a decline or saw their wealth remain unchanged.
Mumbai continues to be India’s leading hub for billionaires, with 90 listed on the Hurun Global Rich List. However, it has lost its title as Asia’s billionaire capital to Shanghai, which now boasts 92 billionaires, while Beijing follows closely with 91. Mumbai welcomed 11 new billionaires this year, outpacing London (7) and Beijing (8) in terms of new entrants.

Five of the top ten billionaires are based in Mumbai, while New Delhi is home to two. Bengaluru, Pune, and Ahmedabad each contribute one billionaire to the list.

- Average Wealth: Rs 34,514 crore, surpassing China’s average of Rs 29,027 crore.
- Average Age: 68, which is two years above the global average.
- Youngest Billionaires: Shashank Kumar and Harshil Mathur, co-founders of Razorpay, both aged 34, with a combined wealth of Rs 8,643 crore.
- Youngest Billionaire Globally: Wang Zelong from China, aged 29, with a net worth of Rs 8,643 crore.
India also has 22 women billionaires, whose combined wealth totals Rs 9 trillion.

On the global stage, Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, saw the largest increase in wealth, adding $189 billion to his fortune over the past year. He retained his position as the world’s richest person for the fourth time in five years, becoming the first individual to surpass the $400 billion mark. Amazon founder Jeff Bezos ranked second, with a net worth of $266 billion. Meanwhile, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg broke into the top three for the first time, thanks to strong investor confidence in Meta’s advancements in AI and technology.
