Weather Update: Mercury To Dip Further As IMD Predicts Rain In Delhi-NCR Today

Cloudy weather and on and off light rainfall is predicted in the city till January 9 under the influence of two back-to-back western disturbances

New Delhi: The rising number of Covid-19 cases in the national capital and the projection of more rains on Thursday are expected to keep the mood of the citizens gloomy. Light rains in Delhi brought down its maximum temperature to 15.7 degrees Celsius on Wednesday, and more rain is expected in the coming days.

The temperature in Delhi was four notches below the normal and the season’s lowest so far, according to the news agency PTI.

An intense Western Disturbance is very likely to affect northwest regions from Thursday night. Under its influence, an induced cyclonic circulation is very likely to form over
southwest Rajasthan & neighbourhood on Friday, said the weather department in its bulletin.

A cloud cover pushed the minimum temperature up to 10.9 degrees Celsius, four notches more than normal on Wednesday. The Safdarjung Observatory considered the official marker for the city, recorded 7.3 mm rainfall. The weather stations at Palam, Lodhi Road, Ridge, and Ayanagar received 6.1 mm, 6mm, 5.8mm, and 4.8 mm rains, respectively on Wednesday.

The IMD had predicted rains will continue till January 9 but no cold wave conditions are likely over north India during the next 6-7 days. Cloudy weather and on and off light rainfall is predicted in the city till January 9 under the influence of two back-to-back western disturbances, officials at the India Meteorological Department said, according to  PTI.

"Generally cloudy sky and light rains" are expected till January 9 and the minimum temperature is expected to rise to 13-14 degrees Celsius by Saturday. 

Thunderstorm accompanied with lightning and hail at isolated places very likely over East Uttar Pradesh and West Madhya Pradesh on Thursday and with lightning at isolated places over West Uttar Pradesh and East Madhya Pradesh. 

Light intensity rain/drizzle would continue to occur over and adjoining areas of isolated places of West Delhi, South Delhi, South-East Delhi and NCR (Loni Dehat, Hindon AF Station, Ghaziabad, Indirapuram, Chhapraula, Noida, Dadri, Greater Noida, Faridabad, according to IMD.

The weather department has already predicted dense fog in isolated pockets very likely over Bihar, West Bengal & Sikkim and Odisha on Thursday.

Some parts of Uttar Pradesh will witness rainfall on Thursday. Light intensity rain/drizzle is expected to occur over and adjoining areas of Agra, Tundla, Firozabad, Etah (UP) during next two hours, said IMD in its prediction.

Light intensity rain/drizzle would continue to occur over and adjoining areas of Amroha, Moradabad, Rampur, Sambhal, Billari, Milak, Chandausi, Bahajoi, Debai, Narora, Gabhana, Sahaswan, Kasganj, Etah (UP) during next 2 hours.

Meanwhile, Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) is presently at 380 (overall) in the 'very poor' category, as per System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR)-India, reported news agency ANI.
