At 40.1°C, Delhi Witnesses Hottest Sep Day In Last 14 Yrs. Guwahati & Ahmedabad Sizzle At 38.2°C, 35.9°C

Since at least 2009, the maximum temperature in September has not exceeded 40 degrees Celsius in Delhi, peaking at little around 38 degrees Celsius at its highest in the previous 14 years.

Monday was the warmest September day in Delhi in at least 14 years. The highest temperature recorded on Monday was 40.1 degrees Celsius, which is six degrees more than average for this time of year. According to statistics from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), this is also the scorching maximum temperature documented in September since at least 2009.

Since at least 2009, the maximum temperature in September has not exceeded 40 degrees Celsius in Delhi, peaking at little around 38 degrees Celsius at its highest in the previous 14 years. The Safdarjung weather station recorded 38.2 degrees in September 2019.

According to IMD records, the all-time high maximum temperature in September is 40.6 degrees Celsius, set in 1938.

The rise in temperature is accompanied by clear sky and little rainfall - the month of August, which is typically the rainiest for the city, had a 61% deficit in rainfall in Delhi, and September has also seen no rain, despite the fact that the normal for the month till September 4 is 32.4 mm.

The IMD prediction calls for very little rain in Delhi on Tuesday and Wednesday, with the rest of the week being dry. Over the following six days, the maximum temperature might range from 35 to 37 degrees Celsius.

Guwahati

Guwahati residents braved blistering temperatures on September 4 as the city had its hottest September day on record, India Today Northeast reported. The temperature climbed to 38.2°C, breaking the previous record of 37.8°C set on August 29.

The highest temperature in Silchar was 39.4°C, breaking the previous record of 39.2°C set on September 2.

The India Meteorological Department has released a forecast for the Northeast. Numerous places in Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura are anticipated to get moderate rainfall. Furthermore, light to moderate rain is likely in areas of Assam and Meghalaya, with isolated light rain showers in Arunachal Pradesh. Daytime temperatures in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, and Manipur are expected to be 4-5°C above average.

Thunderstorms and lightning are also possible in isolated spots across Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura, according to the weather advisory.

The local forecast for Guwahati and its surroundings calls for partly overcast sky with the possibility of thunder and lightning. The maximum and lowest temperatures are forecast to be 37°C and 27°C, respectively.

Ahmedabad

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) database, the hottest September daytime temperature recorded in Ahmedabad since 1990 was 35.9 degrees in 2001. On Sunday, the temperature reached 35.9 degrees Celsius, a tad lower than Saturday's 36.4 degrees Celsius but still among the warmest September temperatures ever recorded.

"The city and state at large experienced a long period of below-normal temperatures due to weather conditions since June," the Met Department official was quoted by Times Now in its report.

"It is possible that some parts of the state may experience light to moderate rain in the second week of September," the Times of India reported.
