Weather Update: Delhi Records Hottest Day Of Season, Maximum Temperature Settles 10 Degrees Above Normal

Severe heatwave conditions have been predicted by the MeT department in parts of Delhi for the next 2-3 days.

New Delhi: The day temperature in national capital Delhi settled at 39.1 degrees Celsius Monday, which is the highest for the season so far. Some parts of the city saw maximum record beyond 42 degrees, as per Indian Meteorological Department (IMD).

According to IMD's data, the day temperature at the Safdarjung Observatory, base observatory for records, settled at 39.1 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature also settled 4 notches above average to record 22.2 degrees Celsius.

People in Narela had to experience an extremely warm weather as the day maximum soared to record 42 degrees Celsius, 10 degrees above average for the season.  

Najafgarh and Pitampura also saw the day temperature settle at an extremely warm 40.7, 41.1 degrees Celsius, respectively. Lodhi Road, Ridge and Ayanagar were warm too with maximum recording 40, 40.1, 40.5 degrees, according to IMD.

The weather at Palam wasn't comfortable either as the day temperature recorded was 39.1 degrees Celsius, which is highest for this time of the year.

Meanwhile, severe heatwave conditions have been predicted by the MeT department in parts of Delhi for the next 2-3 days. On Tuesday too the day temperature is likely to settle close to 40 degrees in the city, while the minimum will hover around 22 degrees Celsius.

According to IMD, a heatwave is declared when the day temperature is more than 40 degrees Celsius, and at least 4.5 notches above normal. And if the departure from normal is more than 6.5 degrees Celsius, it is considered as severe heat wave.
