A thick layer of fog enveloped parts of north India on Tuesday morning as the cold weather conditions continued, affecting the visibility in these areas. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) stated that over the week, the Western Disturbances are likely to affect Northwest India, and light to moderate rain is expected in Punjab, Chandigarh, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh on January 31 and February 1.

The visibility was poor in Bathinda, Punjab due to dense fog.

The IMD posted on X: “Very dense fog in isolated pockets of Punjab, Haryana, northwest Rajasthan and East Uttar Pradesh; dense fog in isolated pockets of Delhi, Bihar & Odisha; moderate fog in isolated pockets of West Uttar Pradesh”. It further said that shallow fog was seen in isolated pockets of northwest Madhya Pradesh, Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Tripura.

As per the weather office today was recorded to be equal to or less than 500 metres in various locations: Punjab: Amritsar & Patiala – 25 each, Haryana: Ambala – 25, Hisar-200, Northwest Rajasthan: Ganganagar – 25, Churu – 50, Delhi: Palam & Safdarjung – 50 each, West Uttar Pradesh: Bareilly – 200.

Meanwhile, braving the cold weather conditions devotees gathered at Rampath for the darshan of Ram Lalla at Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple in Ayodhya.

The IMD said that isolated heavy rainfall/snowfall is also likely over Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan and Muzaffarabad on Sunday and January 31.

However, the IMD had stated that Punjab, Chandigarh and Haryana will experience a reduction in fog after Tuesday. In the next five days, no coldwave conditions are expected in any part of the country.
