BJP’s Bengal president Dilip Ghosh made the comments at a rally in the Boro area of Bandwan in Purulia district on Tuesday.

In a video tweeted by a PTI journalist, Ghosh has been quoted as saying: "People don't want to see her face, that's why she's showing her broken leg... What kind of saree is she wearing, which covers one leg and shows the other? If you want to put out your leg, why saree, wear a Bermuda so it can be seen".

The remarks are attracting the ire of Trinamool Congress and netizens alike.

TMC's Lok Sabha MP took to Twitter earlier in the day and launched another attack against the saffron party against the statement by Dilip Gosh.

"It now appears that the role of BJP Bengal State President has been merely reduced to that of venom-spitting... he has conveniently crossed all limits," another TMC Lok Sabha MP - Dr. Kakoli Dastidar tweeted.

Mamata Banerjee was injured in Nandigram earlier this month where she was campaigning after filing her nomination paper for the much-publicised seat. While CM Mamata had termed the incident as a planned attack, Election Commission has refuted the claim and dismissed it as an accident.

Meanwhile, whether or not BJP will present any clarification over Dilip Gosh's remarks - remains to be seen.
