Prime Minister Modi said that Chopra has with his historic feat inspired the younger generation to come forward and excel in the sporting field.
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday called Neeraj Chopra, who became the first Indian to win the gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics, and congratulating him for making the nation proud.
The Prime Minister during the conversation showered praises on Chopra, who bagged the gold in men’s javelin throw at the Olympics.
Prime Minister Modi said that Chopra has with his historic feat inspired the younger generation to come forward and excel in the sporting field.
Prime Minister Modi also told Chopra that this is a moment of immense pride for his family and asked him to convey his best wishes to his parents.

The Prime Minister also tweeted about his conversation with Chopra and said he “personifies the best of sporting talent and sportsman spirit”.
“Just spoke to @Neeraj_chopra1 and congratulated him on winning the Gold! Appreciated his hardwork and tenacity, which have been on full display during #Tokyo2020. He personifies the best of sporting talent and sportsman spirit. Best wishes for his future endeavours,” he posted on the micro-blogging platform.
Prime Minister Modi earlier in the day congratulated Chopra post his win in javelin throw and said “history has been scripted” at Tokyo.
“History has been scripted at Tokyo! What @Neeraj_chopra1 has achieved today will be remembered forever. The young Neeraj has done exceptionally well. He played with remarkable passion and showed unparalleled grit. Congratulations to him for winning the Gold. #Tokyo2020,” he tweeted.
Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh announced a special cash reward of Rs 2 crores for Chopra for bringing glory to the nation and scripting his name in history by winning India’s first Olympic Gold in athletics.
“Neeraj Chopra, who is serving the @adgpi has brought glory to the nation & scripted his name in history by winning India’s first Olympic Gold in athletics. It’s our honour to announce a special cash reward of Rs. 2 Cr for him. A proud moment for all Indians & our Armed Forces. Flag of India,” he posted on the micro-blogging platform.
Putting in a stunning performance to win India’s first Olympic gold medal in athletics, Chopra registered a best attempt of 87.58 m to finish ahead of Czech Republic duo of Jakub Vadlejch and Vitezslav Vesely.

It was India's first gold medal at the ongoing Tokyo Olympics and also the country's second individual gold medal in its Olympic history after Abhinav Bindra’s win in Beijing 2008.
