Dhankhar Mimicry Row: Complaint Filed As TMC Leader Says Didn't Intend To Hurt
A police complaint has been lodged against TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee for his mimicry of Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar.
A police complaint has been filed by an advocate against Trinamool Congress MP Kalyan Banerjee for his mimicry of Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar on the premises of Parliament complex on Tuesday, reported news agency PTI. The advocate, Abhishek Gautam filed the complaint at New Delhi's Defence Colony Police station on Tuesday evening, said a police officer, as per the report.
"A complaint was given by advocate Abhishek Gautam at Defence Colony Police station on Tuesday evening. We have forwarded it to the New Delhi district police," the police officer said.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was seen making a video of Banerjee's performance who appeared to mimic the way Dhankhar walked by leaning forward and made reference to having a spine.
In his complaint, Gautam said the video was made with an "intention to insult and defame the Vice-President of India, his caste as well as his background of farmer and as a lawyer".
He also demanded registration of an FIR under the appropriate sections of the Indian Penal Code and Information Technology Act against the TMC MP and others seen in the video, the PTI report added.

Meanwhile, the TMC MP said that he did not intend to hurt anyone. "Dhankhar is senior than me, we don't hurt anyone in our profession. I don't know why he is taking it on his shoulder."
"Does he (Dhankhar) really behave like this in Rajya Sabha? Mimicry was done by the PM in Lok Sabha between 2014-2019," he said while speaking to reporters outside Parliament.
Rajya Sabha Chairman Dhankhar had raised the issue in Parliament on Tuesday after the video clip of mimicry was aired on TV news channels.
On Wednesday, he said that he received a phone call from Prime Minister Narendra Modi who expressed pain over the TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee's act
