Chardham Yatra 2022: Negative RT-PCR Test Report Made Mandatory For Pilgrims

The decision has been made in view of increasing cases of Covid-19 in the country.

New Delhi: In view of rising cases of Covid-19 in several parts of the country, a negative RT-PCR test report has been mandated for the pilgrims visiting the Char Dham Yatra which is scheduled to commence from May 3. Visitors will have to produce a negative RT-PCR report 72 hours prior to arrival and the report is to be uploaded on the registeration portal. The report will also have to be uploaded on a portal by state tourism department that will soon be live. 

Sources close to ABP News told that the Uttarakhand government is likely to issue new guidelines with regard to the Char Dham pilgrimage in light of uptick in Covid-19 cases. Around 1.5 lac visitors have registered for pilgrimage so far on the registeration portal.

While gates for Yamunotri and Gangotri will be opened for visitors on May 3, for Kedarnath it will open on May 6, Badrinath on May 8 and Hemkund Sahib will be opened for visitors on May 22. 

India recorded a sharp spike in number of Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours as the country crossed the 3000-mark on Wednesday. 3,303 new Covid-19 cases were recorded in the last 24 hours, as per the data shared by Ministry of Health Affairs.

India's active caseload currently stands at 16,980, which is 0.04% of the total cases while the daily positivity rate has also increased to 0.66% due to the surge in infections.

2,563 patients were reported recovered in the last 24 hours, taking the total recoveries to 4,25,28,126, The recovery rate now stands at 98.74%.
