Cold Wave Sweeps Uttar Pradesh, Cold Day & Fog Alerts In 57 districts: Check All Details

The weather in Uttar Pradesh will remain dry till Thursday, but a cold day warning has been issued. A Western Disturbance is expected to become active from January 10, which could bring rain.

UP Weather Update: The severe cold wave continues across Uttar Pradesh, including in northern India. The bitter cold and dense fog, along with the cold wave, have made life difficult. Amid the severe cold, another Western Disturbance is forecast to become active in the state from January 10. This would bring rain to many parts of the state, leading to a further drop in temperature.

Meanwhile, an alert for cold day and very dense fog has been issued for many parts of the state for Wednesday.

Dense fog in Prayagraj where devotees have gathered for the Masha Kumbh 2025: 

During the past 24 hours, there was rain in some parts of western UP, including Meerut and Saharanpur, which resulted in conditions ranging from 'cold day' to 'extremely cold day' throughout the day. People are having to rely on bonfires and heaters to escape the cold. The weather is likely to be dry in UP for the next two days, Wednesday and Thursday, but a cold day warning has been issued for this period. Dense fog, bringing down visibility, would be a problem during the morning and evening hours. 

Cold Day And Fog Alerts

Due to the fog, low visibility may cause problems for people driving on the roads. Another Western Disturbance is likely to become active in the state from January 10. Its impact will be seen in most parts of western UP. A rain alert has been issued for several districts, including Noida, Ghaziabad, Meerut and Agra, for January 11.

A bulletin from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said cold day conditions are likely in isolated pockets of Punjab, Haryana Chandigarh, Rajasthan, north Madhya Pradesh on January 8 and in Uttar Pradesh on January 8 and 9. "Rain and thundershowers are very likely at isolated places over East UP and at a few places over West UP," the IMD said.

Coldest Day Of Season In Ghaziabad

Ghaziabad recorded its coldest day of the season on Tuesday, January 7. The maximum temperature here was 16 degrees Celsius whereas the minimum temperature dropped below 10°C. The cold may be more troublesome in Noida and Ghaziabad in the coming days.

An orange alert for extreme cold days and dense fog has been issued today in Saharanpur, Muzaffarnagar, Meerut, Noida, Ghaziabad, Bulandshahr, Bijnor, Moradabad, Rampur, Sambhal, Aligarh, Mathura, Agra, Hathras, Firozabad, Etawah, Mainpuri, Etah, Badaun, Bareilly, Pilibhit, Lakhimpur Kheri, Bahraich, Shravasti, Shahjahanpur, Kannauj, Auraiya, Kanpur, Hardoi, Unnao, Lucknow, Sitapur, and Barabanki in Uttar Pradesh.

In addition, extreme cold days and dense fog will prevail in Fatehpur, Rae Bareli, Ayodhya, Amethi, Pratapgarh, Kaushambi, Prayagraj, Sultanpur, Ayodhya, Ambedkarnagar, Jaunpur, Azamgarh, Mau, Ballia, Ghazipur, Varanasi, Mirzapur and Jaunpur. A yellow alert for dense fog and cold days has been issued in Baghpat, Hapur, Lalitpur, Jhansi, Jalaun, Hamirpur, Mahoba, Banda, Chitrakoot, Gonda, Balrampur, Siddharthnagar, Basti, Sant Kabir Nagar, Maharajganj, Gorakhpur, Kushinagar, and Deoria.
