US Embassy Warns: Visa Revocation And Deportation For Breaching Immigration Laws

In a stern advisory underscoring the United States’ tightened immigration enforcement, the US Embassy in India has reiterated that visa holders who fail to comply with American laws and immigration requirements may face visa revocation and deportation.

The embassy, in a message shared on social media platform X, emphasised that scrutiny does not end at the visa issuance stage, reported India Today. “US visa screening does not stop after a visa is issued,” the statement read. “We continuously check visa holders to ensure they follow all US laws and immigration rules — and we will revoke their visas and deport them if they don’t.”

The notice comes as part of a broader clampdown on immigration violations under the administration of President Donald Trump, which has seen increasing measures aimed at strengthening border control and enforcement.

Social Media Vetting Now Part of Standard Procedure

The embassy's latest advisory follows recent guidance directed at applicants under the F, M, and J non-immigrant visa categories, primarily used by students and exchange programme participants. Applicants have been encouraged to set their social media profiles to public visibility to assist immigration authorities in conducting background checks.

The embassy also warned that “falsifying or omitting information” regarding online activity could result in visa denial or even permanent ineligibility. Since 2019, individuals applying for US visas have been required to submit social media handles used over the past five years, a step the embassy describes as necessary for establishing identity and legal admissibility under US immigration law.

Visa Integrity Fee to Be Introduced in 2026

A new measure announced recently involves the introduction of a $250 'Visa Integrity Fee' for all non-immigrant visa applicants. Scheduled to be implemented from 2026, this fee will function similarly to a security deposit, with the potential for refunds if certain compliance conditions are met.

In a prior communication, the US Embassy reiterated its stance on immigration, stating that a visa is “a privilege, not a right” and that each visa decision reflects “a national security decision.” The embassy has also made it clear that those entering the country illegally or violating immigration laws risk imprisonment, removal from the US, and permanent bans from future visa applications.

Digital awareness campaigns, including posters and advisories, have been released in recent weeks as the US continues to reinforce its zero-tolerance policy on immigration violations.
