UP CM Adityanath Claims Appeasement Politics With ‘Abba Jaan’ Jibe, Omar Abdullah Terms It 'Blatant Communalism'

Adityanath’s remarks also appeared to be aimed at his predecessor and Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav.

New Delhi: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday said the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has ended the politics of appeasement, adding there was a time when those who said ‘Abba Jaan’ used to digest the ration meant for the poor.

Adityanath’s remarks also appeared to be aimed at his predecessor and Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav.

“Under PM Modi's leadership, there is no place for appeasement politics... Before 2017 was everyone able to get ration? Only those who used to say 'Abba Jaan' were digesting the ration,” Adityanath said at an event in Kushinagar, ANI reported.

“Back then, the ration used to reach Nepal or Bangladesh. But today, if there is any corruption in disbursement of food grains, then those who are guilty are sent to jail,” he added.

With all eyes set on the Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls next year, Adityanath further said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has transformed the political agenda in the country.

Meanwhile, former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister and National Conference leader Omar Abdullah took potshots at the BJP over Adityanath’s remarks, saying the saffron party has no intention of fighting any election with an agenda other than “blatant communalism” and hatred with all the venom directed towards Muslims”.

“I’ve always maintained the BJP has no intention of fighting any election with an agenda other than blatant communalism & hatred with all the venom directed towards Muslims. Here is a CM seeking re-election claiming that Muslims ate up all the rations meant for Hindus,” he tweeted.

The political environment in Uttar Pradesh is heated up over an assembly election slated to take place next year. Earlier today, CM Adityanath was questioned over an advertorial showing development in the UP but with a stock image of a flyover in Kolkata. The newspaper took responsibility for the design work while reactions by opposition leaders were unforgiving.

Meanwhile, Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra began her two-day tour of Rae Bareli, her mother's parliamentary constituency, on Sunday and offered prayers at the Hanuman temple in Churuva on the Lucknow-Rae Bareli border.

The visit involves organisational meetings ahead of the crucial Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls.
