‘Unwarranted Comments’: MEA Responds To OIC’s Statement On Delimitation Exercise In J&K

We are dismayed that the OIC secretariat has once again made unwarranted comments on the internal affairs of India,” External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said.

New Delhi: India slammed the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on Monday for its “unwarranted” comments regarding the delimitation exercise in Jammu and Kashmir adding that the grouping should refrain from carrying out its “communal agenda” at the behest of one country, in an oblique reference to Pakistan.

Response from New Delhi came after the OIC had criticised India over the delimitation exercise in Jammu and Kashmir

We are dismayed that the OIC secretariat has once again made unwarranted comments on the internal affairs of India,” External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said.

“As in the past, the Government of India categorically rejects the assertions made by the OIC secretariat on the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir which is an integral and inalienable part of India,” he added.

The MEA spokesperson was responding to media queries on the OIC statement on the delimitation exercise in Jammu and Kashmir.

The OIC should refrain from carrying out its communal agenda vis-a-vis India at the behest of one country,” Bagchi added.

The delimitation commission, tasked with redrawing parliamentary and assembly constituencies in Jammu and Kashmir, notified its final report earlier this month.

The 57-member grouping of Muslim majority nation which met on the sidelines of the 48th session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Islamabad in March this year had said that lasting peace in South Asia cannot be achieved without a settlement of the Kashmir issue.

India had previously also hit out at the grouping saying that bodies like OIC should not make irresponsible statements.
