Undeclared Emergency, ED Raids On Hindenburg Next?: Oppn On Income Tax Survey At BBC Offices In India

Congress, TMC and other opposition parties have tweeted their anguish over the survey at BBC offices in India.

New Delhi: Congress has responded to the Income Tax survey at BBC offices at multiple locations in India. The party tweeted, "First came the BBC documentary, it was banned. Now I-T has raided BBC."

"Undeclared Emergency," the party said.

Reacting to the I-T survey, Congress MP Jairam Ramesh said, "Here we are demanding a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) probe into allegations against Adani and the government is running after the BBC."

"Vinash Kale Viprit Buddhi (When one's destruction time comes, they think in the most negative manner)," he added.

Telangana IT minister KT Rama Rao also expressed surprise over the IT survey. He tweeted, " What a surprise!! 😁 A few weeks after they aired the documentary on Modi, BBC India now raided by IT. Agencies like IT, CBI and ED have become laughing stock for turning into BJP’s biggest puppets."

"What next? ED raids on Hindenberg or a hostile takeover attempt?" he asked in his tweet.

TMC MP Mahua Moitra also took to Twitter to express her views on the ongoing survey. She said, "Reports of Income Tax raid at BBC's Delhi office. Wow, really? How unexpected."

"Meanwhile farsaan seva for Adani when he drops in for a chat with Chairman @SEBI_India office," she added.

SP Chief Akhilesh Yadav said that the reports of 'raids' at BBC offices are a declaration of an 'ideological emergency'.

Congress leader Manish Tewari called the survey 'imbecile', 'childish' and 'beyond even silly'. He tweeted, "As hosts of G-20 what are we telling the world that rather than an emerging great power we are an insecure power. Whichever bright spark thought this one up is
@PMOIndia ‘s worst enemy."

Income Tax officials reached BBC's Delhi and Mumbai offices today and are doing verification of certain documents in the Account and Finance Department. The Department has impounded a few mobile phones and laptops/desktops of persons of the account and finance department

The tax sleuths also went through the data from the computer in the accounting department. All employees have been prohibited from stepping outside.
