Ujjain Rape Accused Sustains Injuries After 'Falling While Trying To Flee' During Crime Scene Inspection

The auto-driver who was caught in connection with the rape of a 12-year-old girl in Madhya Pradesh's Ujjain was hurt while attempting to flee the authorities, according to police, news agency ANI reported. Bharat Soni, the auto-driver, was arrested earlier in the day, and three others were held. According to Inspector Ajay Kumar of the Mahakal Police Station in Ujjain, Bharat Soni suffered injuries to his arms and legs while attempting to flee the scene of the crime.

Speaking with media, Kumar stated: "Today, we reached the spot to recreate the scene of the crime and recover the clothes worn by the girl. Sensing an opportunity, Bharat Soni tried to escape. Police personnel chased him and caught him. During this, he fell on the cement road and received injuries to his arms and legs."

Bharat Soni was taken to the Civil Hospital in Ujjain and is now being treated there.

Ujjain SP Sachin Sharma said: "An attempt was made to spread a narrative that no one helped her (the victim), but during our investigation, we found that people helped her financially, it would have been better if (more) help could have been provided. I thank the people of Indore for keeping faith in the police."

"There is an accused in the rape case. There is another auto driver against whom a case will be registered for not informing the police about the incident. When we were taking (the accused) for recreation of the crime scene, the accused (Bharat Soni) tried to run away, during which he also got injured and our police officer also got injured. They are being provided medical assistance," SP Kumar further stated.

According to police, the girl, who is from Satna, came in Ujjain after boarding an auto at Jeevan Kheri. A forensic analysis of the vehicle is ongoing after blood traces were discovered on the passenger seat of the autorickshaw.

Commending the police for the arrest of the Ujjain minor rape case accused, Union Minister Narendra Singh Tomar stated: "Madhya Pradesh has a BJP government and there's a rule of law in the state. Criminals are never given shelter here."

Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Dr Narottam Mishra said that a SIT has been formed to investigate the Ujjain minor raoe case. "A suspect has been detained. Strict action will be taken on the basis of investigation," he said. 

After a video of the girl strolling through the streets of Ujjain while semi-naked and bleeding went popular on social media, a FIR was filed at the Mahakal Police Station.
