Derek O'Brien took to Twitter to call out seven claims made by Shah as being "7 pieces of concocted, false info" and presented counter-points to each.
"#FactCheck of the speech made in Bengal by the henchman of the “tourist gang”. 7 pieces of concocted, false info in one speech. Actually, by his standards, quite low!" O'Brien wrote.
Amit Shah, in his speech on Saturday, had questioned Mamata Banerjee as to which was her original party in response to allegations of BJP poaching members of other political parties.
In his rebuttal, Derek O'Brien wrote that Banerjee "did not defect to another party. She set up a NEW party in 1998" after she resigned from the Congress to set up the Trinamool.
The Union Home Minister had at several points alleged that the Mamata Banerjee government in West Bengal is not sending assistance and help extended by the centre to those in need within the state. Responding to them, the TMC MP claimed that the state government was in fact providing better financial aid to the poor and farmers than the schemes offered by NDA. Derek O'Brien countered the accusation over BJP members being killed by stating the cause to be "infighting" and went to allege that even suicides were being "passed off as political killings". Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday attended a mega rally by BJP in West Bengal's Midnapore and launched a scathing attack on Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and her governance. It turned out to be a high-voltage political day for West Bengal as former TMC heavyweight Suvendu Adhikari along with several other rebel leaders joined BJP in presence of the Union Home Minister and other leaders of the saffron party.
