Challenges In Front Of TMC's Mamata Banerjee As She Gets Sworn In As Chief Minister For Third Term

The oath-taking ceremony is organized at Raj Bhavan. It will be a low-key program given the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief Mamata Banerjee to take oath as the chief minister of West Bengal for the third consecutive term. TMC emerged victorious in the high-stakes West Bengal Assembly Elections.

As she gets sworn in as the Chief Minister there are certain challenges in front of the TMC leader to be tackled immediately.

Here are some of the issues she'll have to tackle as soon as she is sworn in:

  • Mamata Banerjee has the onus to control the political violence that ensued right after her party's major victory in the state. The violence erupted soon after the election results were announced. "Some sporadic incidents are there, but that will be tackled. After the election, it happens in every state. I don't want any violence or anything. BJP is trying to create communal clash, because of their shameful defeat". BJP has reported at least 6 deaths in the violence resultant of the election outcome. Whereas, TMC itself reported 4.
  • Covid cases surge, currently there 120946 active cases in the state of West Bengal according to MoHFW data. West Bengal on Tuesday reported its highest single-day deaths of 107 COVID patients taking the toll to 11,744, the health department said in a bulletin. Ramping up vaccination is one of the biggest challenges in front of the CM as currently, only two private hospitals began inoculation on Tuesday.
  • Keeping the chain of medical supplies at par with its demand, though West Bengal administration has denied any shortages in oxygen. Last month, West Bengal announced government plans to set up 55 oxygen plants at state-run hospitals treating Covid-19 patients as many of them are succumbing to the virus due to a lack of oxygen.
