Thunderstorm warning: Met dept issues alert; schools to remain shut in Haryana
State Education Minister Ram Bilas Sharma on Sunday said the decision to keep schools closed on May 7 and 8 has been taken in view of the MeT Depatment's warning.
New Delhi: In the wake of recent deaths in the country due to thunderstorm accompanied with squall, the Met department has issued a warning in 13 states including Uttar Pradesh and the national capital.
In Haryana, as a precautionary measure, all the schools will remain shut on Monday.
State Education Minister Ram Bilas Sharma on Sunday said the decision to keep schools closed on May 7 and 8 has been taken in view of the MeT Depatment's warning.
In view of the warning, the Haryana Revenue and Disaster Management Department, in an advisory, has suggested safety tips to be adopted in case of thunderstorms, dust storms and squall.
A spokesperson of the department said there is no need to panic and people should follow the precautions, pay special attention to children and senior citizens.
All departments have been directed to stay alert, he said
Not just in Northern part of the country has been affected due to storm. Even in Nadia district of West Bengal, seven persons were injured and about 200 houses collapsed.
The storm with a speed of about 90 to 100 km per hour lashed places such as Ranaghat, Hanskhali and Krishnagar.
District administration sources said while 200 houses collapsed, 300 were partially damaged.
