Weather Update: The IMD has predicted light to moderate rainfall in some north Indian states and said that isolated heavy rainfall/snowfall is expected over the western Himalayan Region on Monday.

New Delhi: The winter season might not be over yet as several north Indian states are likely to receive light to moderate rainfall on Monday. It includes Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and Delhi.

The national capital received a wet spell on Sunday night resulting in a dip in temperature. The Indian Meteorology Department (IMD) has predicted more rain in the region on early Monday morning.

“Light intensity rain/drizzle would occur over and adjoining areas of isolated places of NCR (Loni Dehat, Hindon AF Station, Dadri, Greater Noida) during next 2 hours,” the weatherman said in a tweet at 7 AM on Monday.

Earlier on Sunday, the IMD issued an advisory suggesting actions to prevent water logging in low-lying areas, occasional reduction in visibility, disruption of traffic due to water logging in roads, and minor damage to kutcha roads in Delhi-NCR.

“Check for traffic congestion on your route before leaving for your destination. Follow any traffic advisories that are issued in this regard. Avoid going to areas that face the water logging problems often. Avoid staying in vulnerable structure,” it added.

On Monday, the weather department said light to moderate rainfall is expected in parts of Haryana and western Uttar Pradesh.

“Light to moderate intensity rain would occur over & adjoining areas of isolated places of Yamunanagar, Kosali, Sohana, Rewari, Palwal, Bawal, Nuh, Aurangabad, Hodal (Haryana) Saharanpur, Gangoh, Shamli, Muzaffarnagar, Kandhla, Khatauli, Sakoti Tanda, Hastinapur,” it said as quoted by ANI.

IMD on Sunday predicted isolated heavy rainfall/snowfall over the western Himalayan Region for Monday, Jan 30. It also mentioned a likely hailstorm over Uttarakhand.

“Isolated heavy rainfall/snowfall very likely over Western Himalayan Region on 29th & 30th January 2023. Isolated hailstorm very likely over Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, West Uttar Pradesh & Rajasthan on 29th and over Uttarakhand on 29th & 30th January 2023,” the statement read.

As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a powerful Western Disturbance is sweeping over Afghanistan and the surrounding region.

High moisture input from the Arabian Sea is expected to remain across northwest India through tomorrow, January 30. Light/moderate widespread rainfall/snowfall is highly possible across the Western Himalayan Region, while light/moderate scattered to moderately widespread rainfall is forecast throughout Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and West Uttar Pradesh until Monday.
