Telangana Reports First Case Of Guillain-Barré Syndrome In Siddipet
According to a statement by KIMS Hospital in Hyderabad on Friday, the patient with Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) has no travel history to Pune or any known exposure to individuals with condition.

A 25-year-old woman from Siddipet district has been diagnosed with Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS), marking the first known case of the rare nerve disorder in Telangana. The disease, which has been prevalent in parts of Pune and surrounding areas, has raised concerns among health officials.
"A 25-year-old woman from Siddipet, Telangana, is currently admitted and is put on a ventilator support treatment at KIMS Hospital after being diagnosed with GBS," it said, as per a report on PTI.
According to a statement released by KIMS Hospital in Hyderabad on Friday, the patient has no travel history to Pune or any known exposure to individuals with the condition. The woman had initially sought treatment at another hospital but was shifted to KIMS as her condition worsened. Given the severity of her case, she is now entirely dependent on ventilator support.
Consultant Neurologist Dr Praveen Kumar Yada told PTI, "Despite the high prevalence of this disease in Pune, Maharashtra, the patient has no history of travel to Pune, nor does anyone in her family have a history of this condition. The GBS occurs when the body's immune system mistakenly attacks its own nervous system after fever or loose motions."
Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS)
Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) is a rare autoimmune disorder in which the body's immune system mistakenly attacks the peripheral nerves. It is often triggered by bacterial or viral infections and, in some cases, vaccinations.
The outbreak of GBS was first detected in Pune, with the number of cases now reaching 130 across Pune and a few other districts of Maharashtra.
So far, two suspected GBS-related deaths have been reported—a 56-year-old woman from Pune and a man from Solapur district.
In response to the outbreak, civic authorities have issued three key guidelines for residents in affected areas like Pimpri-Chinchwad and Sinhagad including having clean boiled water and avoiding stale or partially cooked food.
