Protests Erupt At Telangana’s CMR Engineering College Over 'Secret Filming' At Bathroom

A massive protest erupted at CMR Engineering College in Medchal, Telangana, after some of the students from the girl's hostel alleged that hostels' cooking staff secretly recorded videos of them in the bathrooms on Wednesday night. The students chanting slogans of “We want justice” demanded action against the preparators. They also highlighted the alleged grave safety lapses in the premises.
The protest which started outside the college soon intensified as students from various students union joined in support of the protesting women. The demonstrators raised concerns not only about the alleged video recordings but also about the behaviour of the hostel warden and staff, as per a report on India Today. They alleged that the hostel authorities were negligent in ensuring the students’ safety.

The issue came to light when the student union received reports of the alleged recordings and immediately rallied behind the affected students, intensifying the protests.
As part of the preliminary investigations, the police said that the students accused three cooking staff and female warden of negligence, as per the report. The police also said that there was no clarity yet on the alleged videos.
"The women students CMR Engineering College have alleged that hostel staff recorded videos of them in the bathroom. They protested against the hostel staff and demanded action against the accused. A case has been registered and the matter is being investigated," said Inspector of Medchal police station.
Meanwhile, seven suspects have been taken into custody for questioning.
