Telangana CM KCR's Daughter Kavitha Summoned By CBI In Delhi Liquor Policy Case

The CBI has directed K Kavitha to appear before it on December 6.

The CBI on Friday issued summons to Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao's daughter K Kavitha in connection with the Delhi liquor policy case, PTI reported. The CBI has directed her to appear before it on December 6.

In the notice, the CBI has asked her to intimate the place of residence as per her convenience for the examination at 11 am on December 6, PTI reported.

"During the course of investigation of the subject cited above, certain facts have emerged with which you (Kavitha) may be acquainted with. Hence, your examination on such facts is required in the interest of investigation," the CBI said in the notice.

"It is therefore requested that kindly intimate the place of residence as per your convenience for your examination at 11.00 hours on 6-12-2022 in connection with investigation of above noted case," the agency further said.

"I have been issued a CBI notice under Section 160 of CrPC seeking my clarification. I have informed the authorities that I can meet them at my residence in Hyderabad on December 6 as per their request," ANI quoted K Kavitha as saying.

Kavitha's name cropped up in the case after the ED, in the remand report of one of the accused -- Amit Arora -- who was arrested on Wednesday, claimed the MLC and others were part of a group called the "South Group".

The ED, which filed its first chargesheet last week, mentioned that Vijay Nair, one of the accused, received Rs 100 crore kickbacks on behalf of AAP leaders from the "South Group", being controlled by several persons, including KCR's daughter.

Earlier in the day, Kavitha said she was ready to face any inquiry.

"We will face any kind of inquiry. If the agencies come and ask us questions we will certainly answer. But tarnishing leaders' images by giving selective leaks to the media, people will refute it," PTI quoted Kavitha as saying.

She also dared Prime Minister Narendra Modi to put her and other leaders behind the bars. "I request Modi that this attitude has to change. It is not possible to win elections by using the ED and CBI. It is very difficult with people of Telangana who are cleverer," Kavitha said.

"If you say that you will keep us in jail, do it. What will happen? There is nothing to be scared of. Will you hang us? At the most you will keep us in jail. That's all," she further said.

Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia is also one of the accused in the case. The case came to light after Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena sought a CBI probe into alleged corruption.

The CBI has alleged that many ineligible vendors were awarded licences by the Delhi government in exchange for bribes. The policy, introduced in November last year, was withdrawn eight months later.

However, Sisodia's name did not figure in the first chargesheet filed by the CBI in connection with the excise policy case. In its chargesheet, the CBI named arrested businessmen Vijay Nair and Abhishek Boinpally and five other accused.
