No Respite For Tamil Nadu As Met Dept Forecasts Temp 2-3°C Above Normal Till March 19

Tamil Nadu is set to experience a significant spike in temperatures over the next few days with the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) predicting an increase of 2 to 3 degrees Celsius above normal levels until March 19. The maximum temperature across the state is expected to range between 34 and 36 degrees Celsius, with some regions likely to endure even harsher conditions.

Tamil Nadu Weather Update 

Several districts have already begun experiencing extreme heat with Karur Paramathi recording the highest temperature of 38.5 degrees Celsius on Monday. Other areas, including Tirupattur, Karur Paramathi, Chennai, Erode, and Madurai, also saw temperatures crossing the 38-degree mark. The scorching heat has raised concerns about potential health risks prompting authorities to issue advisories to the public.

In Chennai, temperatures are expected to reach a maximum of 34 to 35 degrees Celsius with a minimum of around 26 degrees Celsius. The city’s sky conditions are predicted to be partly cloudy which may provide some relief from direct exposure to the sun. However, the overall heat levels remain high and residents have been urged to take necessary precautions, as per a bulletin released by Met Department.

While dry weather has persisted over North Coastal Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal, isolated rainfall was reported in Interior Tamil Nadu and South Coastal Tamil Nadu.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has observed a trough extending from Central Chhattisgarh to North Interior Karnataka at 0.9 km above mean sea level with another trough running from North Interior Karnataka to Interior Kerala. This weather pattern could bring light to moderate rain in some parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal in the coming days. However, these showers are expected to be sporadic and may not offer significant relief from the ongoing heatwave conditions.

As temperatures continue to climb, the health department has advised residents to stay indoors during peak afternoon hours, drink plenty of water, and wear light, breathable clothing to prevent heat-related illnesses.
