Tajinder Singh Bagga Faces New Arrest Warrant Issued By Mohali Court, Hearing On May 23
The BJP leader was arrested by Punjab Police from his home in Delhi on Friday, stopped in Haryana while being taken to Punjab and brought back to Delhi by the Delhi Police hours later.
New Delhi: A day after Delhi’s BJP spokesperson Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga was arrested by Punjab Police and released within hours, a Mohali court on Saturday issued an arrest warrant against the BJP leader and instructed the police to arrest him and produce him before court. The arrest warrant has been issued by the court of Judicial Magistrate Ravtesh Inderjit Singh.
"Whereas Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga, s/o Pritpal Singh, r/o B-1/170, Janak Puri New Delhi stands charged with the offence punishable U/Sec 153-A, 505, 505 (2), 506 IPC. You are hereby directed to arrest the said Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga and to produce him before me,” the judge said in the order as quoted by news agency PTI. The next date for the case has been scheduled on May 23.
Reacting to this latest development, Tajinder Bagga’s father Preetpal Singh Bagga, as quoted by news agency ANI, said, “It has now been proven that they just want to book Tajinder Bagga in some case or the other... Delhi Police is present here in Janakpuri, they will be with us in all legal actions & we will cooperate with them.”
Notably, the BJP leader was arrested by the Punjab Police from his home in the national capital on Friday, stopped in Haryana while being taken to Punjab and then brought back to Delhi by the Delhi Police hours later.
Tajinder Bagga’s arrest has sparked a political slugfest between the BJP and the AAP, with the former accusing the Punjab Police of arresting their leader who has been vocal against Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
However, AAP, refuting the allegations, said that Bagga was arrested from Delhi by the Punjab Police for trying to stoke communal tension and violence in the border state and rejected the saffron party’s charge of vendetta.
Earlier, the Punjab Police had booked the BJP leader on the charges of making provocative remarks, promoting enmity and criminal intimidation. It is to be noted that the case was registered on a complaint of AAP leader Sunny Ahluwalia, a resident of Mohali.
The FIR registered on April 1 referred to Bagga's comments on March 30 when he was part of a BJP youth wing protest outside the residence of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
