Suspected ISI Agent Held By UP ATS For Supplying Information About Military Establishments

According to investigators, Raees met with Armaan in Mumbai, who convinced him to spy for India. A Pakistani citizen also offered him money and a job in Dubai.

An official statement claimed that a suspected ISI spy was apprehended on Sunday for allegedly providing important information on Indian military sites to his superiors in Pakistan, news agency PTI reported. “Raees, a resident of Gonda, was arrested by the Uttar Pradesh Anti Terrorist Squad (ATS). He was summoned to the ATS headquarters here and during interrogation, he confessed to his involvement in spying,” Prashant Kumar, Special DG (Law and Order), said in a statement.

According to investigators, Raees met with Armaan in Mumbai, who convinced him to spy for India. A Pakistani citizen also offered him money and a job in Dubai.

Raees received a WhatsApp call from a foreign number in 2022 and was instructed to contact Hussain. He was then instructed to give photos of vital military installations in India, according to authorities, who added that one Salman and another unnamed male were also involved in the crime.

According to a police officer, Raees received Rs 15,000 and was in contact with the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) using a Bangladesh-registered cellphone number.

According to him, a FIR has been filed against Raees at the Lucknow ATS police station under IPC sections 121 A (waging or attempting to wage war) and 123 (concealing with purpose to help design to wage war), as well as the Officials Secrets Act, 1923, PTI reported.

Police have stated that they are working to apprehend Armaan and Salman.

In a similar incident last year, a man from Surat, Gujarat, was arrested for reportedly spying for the Pakistani intelligence organisation, ISI, and giving critical information about the Indian Army with his handler agent for money, news agency PTI reported citing officials.

Surat Crime Branch apprehended Deepak Salunke, a resident of Bhuvneshwari Nagar, based on a particular tip-off. According to a police press release, he had received Rs 75,856 from a Pakistani ISI (Inter-Services Intelligence) agent by the name of Hamid.
