ED Calls Arvind Kejriwal's Statements 'Slap On System', Singhvi Brings Up Amit Shah's Remarks In SC
SG Tushar Mehta while concluding his arguments for the ED told the Supreme Court that Arvind Kejriwal's statements after getting bail goes against the court's order while granting him bail.
Arvind Kejriwal's Bail: Solicitor General Tushar Mehta while concluding his arguments for the Enforcement Directorate (ED) told the Supreme Court that Arvind Kejriwal's statements after getting bail are a slap on the face of the system and goes against the top court's directions while granting him bail. Mehta said that he wants to bring on record the statements made by the AAP chief while campaigning for the Lok Sabha Elections where he said that "I am out for 21 days and have to surrender on June 2. If you vote for the broom (AAP party symbol), then I will not have to go back to jail."
SG Mehta said that the top court had asked Arvind Kejriwal not to make any statements on the Delhi Liquor Policy case.
The bench of Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta asked SG Mehta "What has he said?"
SG Mehta read out the statement, "I am out for 21 days and have to surrender on June 2. If you vote for the broom (AAP party symbol), then I will not have to go back to jail."
Justice Khanna said that what he is saying is part of our order. He also clarified that Kejriwal cannot make statements on his role in Delhi Liquor Policy case, but he can talk about the case.
SG Mehta argued that Kejriwal is saying that he will have to go back to jail if people vote for him.
Justice Khanna said that it is just Kejriwal's assumption.
We Have Not Made Any Exception For Anyone, Says Supreme Court
Senior Advocate Abhishake Manu Singhvi said if SG Mehta is raking this issue then he will file an affidavit about the statements made by the top minister of the government on court order granting bail to Kejriwal.
Singhvi was referring to Union Home Minister Amit Shah's statements in the press, where he said that there is a general feeling that special treatment has been given in Kejriwal's case by the top court.
Home Minister Amit Shah said on Wednesday in a media interaction that there is a general feeling that the Supreme Court’s decision to grant interim bail to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the excise policy case is akin to him getting special treatment. "The judgement was not a routine judicial order," Shah said.
Justice Khanna however said that we know we have not made any exception for anyone. He further asked SG Mehta and Singhvi to restrict themselves on the question of law.
"We welcome the criticism of the verdict. We will not go into that. Our order is clear on when he has to surrender. It is an order of the apex court and the rule of law shall be governed by this." Justice Khanna said.
The top court on Thursday resumed hearing a petition filed by Arvind Kejriwal challenging his arrest by ED in Delhi Liquor Policy case.
