Stalin's Brother-In-Law 'Murasoli' Selvam Passes Away At 84

Selvam breathed his last reportedly after completing an article for Murasoli, under his pseudonym "Silandhi," a practice through which he had addressed several ideological issues for the party.

Murasoli Selvam, the brother-in-law of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin and former editor of the DMK mouthpiece 'Murasoli', passed away on Thursday at his residence in Bengaluru. He was 84 years old and was married to Stalin's sister, Selvi. Selvam, a prominent figure within the DMK family, was the nephew of the late DMK patriarch and former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi, as well as the younger brother of the late Union Minister 'Murasoli' Maran.

According to DMK leaders, Selvam breathed his last after completing an article for 'Murasoli', under his pseudonym "Silandhi," a practice through which he had addressed and clarified several ideological issues for the party. Selvam's passing marks the end of a significant chapter for the DMK, as he had been a key ideological supporter of the party for decades.

Expressing grief on the social media platform X, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin said, "I lost the ideological pillar and the last shoulder I could lean on after the demise of Kalaignar." Stalin’s heartfelt tribute highlighted the deep personal and political connection Selvam had with the DMK and his role as a guiding force within the party.

Murasoli Selvam was known for his sharp writings, especially during critical periods of DMK’s political journey, including the party's brief alliance with the BJP at the Centre. His articles were instrumental in providing the party with ideological clarity and defense. Additionally, he had also ventured into Tamil film production.

Chennai Central MP and former Union Minister Dayanidhi Maran, Selvam's nephew, also expressed shock and sorrow over his passing. Selvam had been residing in Bengaluru in his final days.
