According to reports, no casualty has been reported and effort to douse the fire is currently underway.

New Delhi: Fire broke out at the emergency department in SSKM Hospital in Kolkata on Thursday.

According to reports, the fire broke out at the CT scan ward in the Emergency department in second floor. As per police, nine fire engines have reached the spot to douse the flames. The fire broke out around 10pm.

According to reports, no casualty has been reported and effort to douse the fire is currently underway.

As per officials, neither any patient nor any hospital staff has been stuck at the building where the fire broke out.

Mayor Firhad Hakim and State Power, Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Arup Biswas have visited the spot after the incident was reported.

"A CT scan machine has been totally gutted because of the fire. There had been no casualty or injury. Actually, the tension was because the spot where the fire was detected is adjacent to the emergency division where patients and their family members crowd round the clock," he said.

As per preliminary reports, the fire that broke out at the CT scan room spread to the X-ray room in a matter of minutes. Police suspect one scanning machine to be the cause behind the fire.

Earlier on Monday, a fire broke out in a leather godown in the Bantala Leather Complex area of Kolkata.

On October 13, a fire broke out at the studio of a production house in the Kudghat area of South Kolkata. A similar incident was reported from Howrah after a fire broke out in a garage on October 4.
