New Delhi: Under pressure from the Opposition for withdrawing the security cover of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala a day before his murder, the Bhagwant Maan government in Punjab constituted a judicial commission to probe the case even as police detained five persons from Dehradun in connection with the killing.
Punjab Police claimed to have got several important leads a day after Moose Wala was shot dead at Jawaharke village in the state's Mansa district. Meanwhile, Delhi Congress workers staged a protest near Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's residence and Youth Congress activists took out a march in Jammu demanding the resignation of Bhagwant Mann.
Police said the Lawrence Bishnoi gang was behind the murder of Moose Wala. Canada-based Goldy Brar, member of the Bishnoi gang, had taken the responsibility of the murder of the Punjabi singer.

- Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann announced setting up of a judicial commission headed by a sitting judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court to probe the killing of Sidhu Moose Wala. "The state government will extend full cooperation to this panel, including roping in any of the central agencies like the National Investigation Agency (NIA)," Mann said. The Punjab CM assured people that his government would leave no stone unturned to bring the perpetrators of this crime to justice.
- Punjab Police detained five men in Dehradun in connection with the killing of Moose Wala, PTI reported. They were picked up from the Shimla bypass area and brought to Punjab for interrogation. The five men were picked up when they were returning from Hemkund Sahib located in Uttarakhand's Chamoli district.
- Police are now focusing on two CCTV footages that have emerged on social media. One CCTV footage, procured from a 'dhaba' in Mansa, shows some people having a meal on Sunday. Police are investigating the role of these people.
- Another CCTV footage has emerged on social media that shows that the vehicle of Moose Wala being followed just before bullets were sprayed on him, PTI reported.
- The post-mortem of the singer's body was conducted at the civil hospital in Mansa after Moose Wala's family gave their consent. Over two dozen bullet wounds, including one in the skull, were found in his body, NDTV reported.
- Earlier in the day, the Special Cell of Delhi Police, along with the Tihar Jail administration, conducted searches in the cells of prisoners Lawrence Bishnoi, Jaggu Bhagwanpuria and Sampat Nehra. The officials, however, found no mobile phones during the searches.
- Lawrence Bishnoi moved a Delhi court seeking a direction to Tihar jail authorities not to give his custody to Punjab police. Bishnoi said he had an apprehension of a fake encounter by the Punjab police. However, the court refused to entertain his plea.
- Several Congress workers, including Delhi Congress president Anil Kumar, were detained while staging a protest near Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's residence. In Jammu, hundreds of youth Congress workers assembled at the AAP head office and held massive protests. They also set afire Mann's effigy and tore posters and hoardings of Arvind Kejriwal.
- A SAD delegation, led by party chief Sukhbir Singh Badal, met Punjab Governor Banwarilal Purohit and sought the dismissal of the AAP-led state government and an NIA probe into the matter. "Met Governor Punjab and urged him to dismiss Bhagwant Mann from his office...He is pushing state back into black days of anarchy," Badal said in a series of tweets.
