Shopian Encounter: Four terrorists killed in gunfight between security forces, militants in Jammu and Kashmir

Police officials said that four "Islamic State-inspired" terrorists were killed on Sunday in a gunfight with the security forces in Jammu and Kashmir's Shopian district.

Shopian Encounter: Four terrorists have been killed in ongoing encounter between terrorists and security forces in Daramdora area of Keegam in South Kashmir. An encounter broke out between terrorists and security forces in the area of Shopian district in the wee hours of Sunday. Following the gunfight, Director General of Police, Dilbag Singh told reporters that the four terrorists killed in the Daramdora village of Shopian were locals and belonged to the Islamic State-inspired Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind outfit. Defence Ministry spokesman, Colonel Rajesh Kalia said: "Four terrorists have been killed in Daramdora village of Shopian district. Weapons and other incriminating material have been recovered from their possession." The operation is now over and identities and group affiliations of the four slain militants are being ascertained, police said. The gunfight broke out after the security forces started a cordon and search operation in Daramdora village. "The operation was focused on the orchard area. As the security forces tightened the cordon around the militants, they opened fire that triggered the encounter," police said. As a precautionary measure authorities have suspended mobile Internet services in Shopian district. Watch- Earlier on Saturday, a militant was killed in an encounterwith security forces in Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir. Security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Boniyar area of Baramulla district in the early hours following information about presence of the militants in the area, a police official said. While on last Tuesday, two Jaish-e-Mohammed militants, including one wanted in connection with the Pulwama attack, and an Army soldier were killed in an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir's Anantnag district. The security forces launched a cordon-and-search operation in Bijbehara area of the south Kashmir district in the morning following inputs about the presence of militants. The operation turned into an encounter after the militants opened fire on the forces, an officer said. An Army jawan was injured in the gun battle and he succumbed to injuries at a hospital, the official said.
