Rahul Gandhi's 'Made In China' Remark In US Draws Shivraj Chouhan's Ire: 'When I Went To US...'

Rahul Gandhi In US: Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi faced criticism from Shivraj Singh Chouhan for "tarnishing India's image abroad" by suggesting India handed over manufacturing to China.

Rahul Gandhi In US: Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Monday, September 9, attacked Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his statements made in America. Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that tarnishing the image of the country on foreign soil is an "anti-national act". Addressing the Indian-American community in Dallas on Sunday, September 8, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said that love, respect and humility are missing from Indian politics. He also said that employment generation was a problem in India as the country had handed manufacturing to China.

During an interaction with students at the University of Texas in Dallas, Gandhi also emphasised the need to focus on manufacturing in India and said that India, America, and other countries in the West are facing unemployment problems, while this is not the case in China because it dominates global production.

'Rahul Gandhi Frustrated By Lok Sabha Elections Defeat'

Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Monday said, "Rahul Gandhi is the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha and is accountable to the country. Tarnishing the image of the country abroad is an anti-national act and no patriot engages in such acts." The Union Minister claimed that Rahul Gandhi is frustrated by the Congress's Lok Sabha election defeat and is venting in this manner. Targeting Rahul Gandhi, Chouhan said that the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh has trained lakhs of workers who have dedicated their lives to India.

'Our politics should be limited to the nation'

Shivraj said that the politics of Congress, BJP, and other parties should be limited to the nation and everyone should realise that they are representing the country while living abroad. The Union Agriculture Minister said, "When I went to America during Manmohan Singh's tenure as Prime Minister, I was asked if the Indian Prime Minister was inferior. At that time I had replied that the Prime Minister of India can never be inferior."

'Rahul's Roots Are Not Connected To India'

Chouhan also slammed Gandhi's alleged comment that everything in India is 'Made in China'. He said that such statements are tantamount to insulting the country's skilled workforce. "This used to happen before when very few things were imported. Even now, very few things are imported to the country as per the need," Chouhan said.

"India's skilled workers and employees are making many things indigenously, but Rahul Gandhi is insulting them. Rahul's roots are not connected to the soil of India. He has nothing to do with the Indian people, their culture and traditions," the former Madhya Pradesh CM said.

While interacting with the students at the University of Texas in Dallas in the USA on Sunday, Rahul Gandhi said: "China is dominating global production." He said products in India like phones and clothes have 'Made In China' written on them. "The West, America, Europe, and India have given up the idea of production and handed it to China. The act of production generates jobs," he said.

Union Minister Giriraj Singh, too, slammed Rahul Gandhi for the comment. "Rahul Gandhi is branding for China. During your time, there was more import in defence. Now we are exporting, during your time the export was only of Rs 19 lakh crores and right now the export has been more than Rs 75 lakh crores. This shows that manufacturing is increasing in the country," Giriraj Singh said.

'People Love Narendra Modi'

On Rahul Gandhi's comment that no one is afraid of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chouhan said that this is actually true. "People love Modiji and that is why they have made him Prime Minister for the third consecutive time. Under PM Modi's leadership, India is becoming self-reliant and will soon become the world's third-largest economy," Chouhan said.
